Burford is committed to improving the representation of women in the legal profession—in leadership positions in law firms, in first chair roles in litigation and on international arbitral tribunals—which is why we launched The Equity Project and why we are a signatory to the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge.
The ERA Pledge was founded in 2015 by esteemed members of the arbitration community to address the historical gender disparities in international arbitration, particularly evident in the under-representation of women sitting as arbitrators.
The objective of The Pledge is two-fold—first to improve the profile and representation of women in arbitration and second to appoint women as arbitrators on an equal opportunity basis.
As a signatory to the ERA Pledge, Burford vows to persist in our ongoing efforts to proactively close the gender gap in arbitration.
Signing the ERA Pledge complements Burford’s efforts with The Equity Project which aims to help close the gender gap in law by providing an economic incentive for change—$50 million earmarked for financing commercial litigation and arbitration matters led by women. With capital from The Equity Project women lawyers can pitch clients with attractive alternative fee arrangements and pursue leadership positions in significant matters.
