In an article about the growth of legal finance, Financial Times highlights Burford Capital as exemplary. Burford CEO Chris Bogart highlights that legal finance has become “a regular part of legal economics,” but focuses on the need to evaluate the category’s growth based on capital deployed, which in Burford’s case in significant: “The volume of new investment business has increased substantially. In 2017 compared to 2016 [we were] writing almost three times as much new business.” He cautions law firms and clients considering financing to be rigorous in diligencing legal finance firms.
