Lawyers Weekly cites Burford’s latest research on Aussie GCs and litigation finance

In coverage of Burford’s 2018 Litigation Finance Survey, Lawyers Weekly highlights the implications for Australian in-house lawyers. Of note, only 5% of interviewees indicated that their organization had used legal finance, which revealed an expected increase in use by corporations. Interviewees offered quotes that hinted at a lack of understand of the tool: “As a Fortune 500 company, we are able to pay for our own litigation,” and “As a large corporation, we are typically not engaged in plaintiffs’ work.” The coverage notes as it concludes that “many in-house lawyers are able to see the ‘value-add’ potential litigation financing can provide.”
