In-house panel: Using the power of the purse to impact the gender gap in law

October 6, 2020

In January 2019, some 170 in-house lawyers signed an open letter demanding greater gender and racial diversity at the law firms they hire. But how clients use their power of the purse to influence change in practice remains an open question.

In this hour-long webcast Burford brings together a panel of leading in-house lawyers to discuss clients and the gender gap in law—and builds on a groundbreaking research project with 77 GCs and senior lawyers at companies with a median income of $8 billion, The 2020 Equity Project study. The study found that while the vast majority of in-house lawyers expect and want to promote diversity at the firms they hire, many also lack insight into key questions such as how origination credit is awarded.

Panelists will share perspective on how in-house lawyers can impact firm diversity, the results of the research and Burford’s award-winning initiative to promote women in law, The Equity Project.
