Nicholas Cooper is a Portfolio Manager with responsibility for Burford’s post-settlement funds, which help law firms and plaintiffs monetize settlement awards ahead of receipt of final proceeds. Experienced in capital markets, he balances clear, competitive client financing terms with attractive risk-adjusted returns for Burford’s Limited Partners.
Prior to joining Burford, Mr. Cooper was an associate at H.I.G. Capital in Miami, where he focused on special situations credit investing. His work primarily included underwriting investments in secondary market purchases of high-yield debt instruments, origination of BDC term loans and equity of distressed companies. Prior to that, Mr. Cooper worked as an investment banking analyst at Credit Suisse in Chicago, where he was a member of the Global Industrials Group and served as a junior member of the firm’s US Corporate Credit Underwriting Committee.
Mr. Cooper graduated from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in both mathematics and finance.
