Burford Capital Expands European Presence with Senior Hire in Spain

Senior Vice President Teresa Gutiérrez Chacón will be based in Madrid, from where she will deepen Burford’s relationships with Spanish law firms and corporations. She brings more than 16 years of experience in complex dispute resolution, international arbitration and legal strategy for multi-billion-dollar matters—most recently as Chief Legal Counsel for Pavilion Energy’s European trading business.

Ms. Gutiérrez Chacón’s career includes roles at leading law firms such as Freshfields and Gómez-Acebo & Pombo. She has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in Litigation and Arbitration by Legal 500 and was named Best Arbitration Lawyer Under 40 by Iberian Lawyer in 2021. In addition to her legal practice, Gutiérrez Chacón brings academic experience, having taught classes at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
