Christiane Deniger to speak at LIDW 2026
Christiane Deniger, Director at Burford Capital will speak on the panel, “Who Speaks for Arbitration: Arbitration in the Media and Public Discourse," at London International Disputes Week 2026. The session will take place on June 5 at 11:30am BST.
This panel will discuss the themes of Who Speaks for Arbitration?, a report by Byfield examining how international arbitration is explained and perceived beyond the legal community. While arbitration remains central to resolving cross-border commercial and investment disputes, public narratives are increasingly shaped by controversy - particularly around investor-state disputes - rather than by the system’s everyday successes.
Bringing together practitioners and media experts, the discussion will explore who currently speaks for arbitration, why its messaging is fragmented, and how the community can better communicate its value to policymakers, businesses and the wider public. The panel will consider how clearer storytelling, coordinated voices and engagement beyond the arbitral ‘bubble’ can help ensure arbitration’s role in supporting global trade and investment is better understood.
Ms. Deniger will be joined by Artem Doudko (Osborne Clarke), Aimee Ward (Ashurst), Ben Rigby (Global Legal Post) and Gus Sellitto (Byfield).
LIDW brings together the international dispute resolution community whether based in London or around the world to debate and explore the key issues and topics, and to help drive awareness and best practice globally. LIDW aims to represent London’s dispute resolution community and demonstrate legal London’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and the rule of law.
