Charlie Rooke to speak at The Economist Antitrust Summit
- Antitrust & competition
Charlie Rooke, Senior Vice President at Burford Capital will speak on the roundtable, “Why do strong competition claims so often stay on the shelf?", during The Economist's Antitrust Summit. The session will take place on February 26 at 10:55am GMT in London.
This roundtable explores private competition claims from a governance point of view: when does pursuing compensation make business sense, and when is it better to walk away? Guiding questions for the discussion will include:
Is the claim worth it? What do boards need to understand about strategic fit, reputational and commercial risk, likely recovery and time-to-cash?
What is the best route to outcome? Should the company pursue a standalone claim or a collective route, and which forum and settlement strategy maximise leverage?
Can execution risk be contained? How can firms manage costs and disclosure and privilege exposure, structure resourcing and funding choices, and define success beyond damages?
Mr. Rooke will speak alongside John Ferguson (Economist Impact).
