Ernest Getto
Managing Director
Ernest Getto is a Managing Director and a member of Burford’s Commitment Committee. In this role, he helps evaluate, approve and finalize Burford’s litigation finance investments. He specializes in analyzing antitrust, securities litigation and environmental cases and concentrates on how such matters would proceed at trial. He also monitors legal developments concerning attorney-client privilege and attorney work-product in cases involving litigation finance. He is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education programs and is a widely published author of litigation-related works.
Before joining Burford, Mr. Getto was a partner at Latham & Watkins, where he served as Global Chair of the Litigation Department. Ernest has more than 40 years of corporate litigation experience, representing a diverse group of major corporate clients, including Georgia-Pacific, PG&E, IBM, Mobil, HBO, Siemens, Newmont Mining and the Directors Guild of America. Mr. Getto is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and has served as Program Chair and member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Co-Chair of the Federal Procedure Committee of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, and as Deputy General Counsel of the Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department. He also served as general counsel to the United States Golf Association.
Mr. Getto earned his JD from Vanderbilt University Law School and his bachelor’s from Cornell University.
