John Lazar is a Managing Director primarily responsible for Burford’s complex strategies line of business, which is focused on investing in assets whose value depends in significant part on legal or regulatory risk. He also manages Burford’s global arbitration business and its private funds platform. He continues to oversee Burford’s secondary market business, engaging with dozens of hedge funds and other institutional investors who participate in that market.
Most recently, Mr. Lazar led Burford’s London office, overseeing all of Burford’s business units across the UK and Europe. Previously, Mr. Lazar held senior leadership roles in Burford’s core business in the US as well.
Prior to joining Burford, Mr. Lazar was a litigator at Cravath and at Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch. He has extensive experience in arbitration and complex commercial litigation matters including securities fraud, accounting fraud, patent analysis and litigation, trade secret theft and complex contractual issues in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Mr. Lazar graduated cum laude from The University of Michigan Law School and has an undergraduate degree from Duke University.
