Eric Carlson is a Managing Director at Burford Capital with responsibility for assessing and underwriting patent finance opportunities and managing Burford’s pipeline of patent-related matters. He works with law firms, companies and intellectual property holders to evaluate legal claims and develop legal finance solutions.

Eric has extensive experience in legal finance, beginning with Gerchen Keller Capital in 2014, which was subsequently acquired by Burford.

Prior to entering legal finance, Eric was a patent litigator at Katten Muchin and Jones Day. His practice included patent disputes involving software, hardware, semiconductors and smartphones, as well as copyright, trademark and other complex commercial matters.

Eric earned his JD from the University of Illinois College of Law and has a BS, Computer Science from the University of Illinois College of Engineering.
