Commercial Credit Officer (NYC or Chicago)

Burford has an open position for a Commercial Credit Officer who will work closely with our underwriting team in connection with providing capital to law firms and monitoring law firm facilities once provided.

  • Assist the underwriting team in reviewing law firm financial statements and creditworthiness, modeling prospective financial transactions and monitoring law firm financial condition in ongoing financial arrangements
  • Several years of experience in credit assessment or financial analysis
  • Detail-oriented and ability to work independently and cohesively as part of a larger underwriting team assessing law firm finances and legal assets

This is an excellent opportunity to work in litigation finance, applying fundamental credit analysis skills to a new asset class working on bespoke investments with a highly experienced investment team.

The Commercial Credit Officer will have a credit and lending/law firm financial background, be detail-oriented and be able to work independently. The Commercial Credit Officer will work closely with the underwriting team in assessing credit risk in new transactions and also monitoring the existing portfolio.

We are looking to fill the position to work from either our New York or Chicago offices but will consider a remote position for the right candidate. The role will report to a Managing Director based in New York.

HR Business Partner (London)

Reporting to the VP, Human Resources in New York and working closely with the Head of the
London Office, the HR Manager will provide operational and strategic support on all aspects of
HR for both UK and Rest of the World team. This role requires interacting with stakeholders at
every level of the business as well as external HR partners. The HR Manager will provide
leadership to drive excellence in human resources initiatives that align with the vision and values
within the businesses culture.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who is keen to take a lead

Process Associate (NYC)

The Firm has an opening for a Process Associate position who will document, manage, and roll-out process improvement projects; document policies, procedures, and user manuals; provide program management support to the Project Management Office; build and run metrics and reporting; and support key databases and tools.

The process associate is a valued member of the Core Services team dedicated to finding and implementing innovative process solutions to support the business’s growth and operational objectives. S/he will have a seat at the table in making critical operational decisions that impact the entire company, as well as the opportunity to explore and craft new policies, processes and technology implementations. Vice President- Patent Underwriting (NYC or Chicago)

The Firm has created a Vice President – Patent Underwriting position who will be responsible for evaluating patent cases Burford considers for financing, and for providing oversight to cases once Burford has invested.

We are seeking an experienced litigator with success in all phases of complex patent cases. This person will be a team player who contributes actively in a collaborative environment. He/she will have the ability to quickly evaluate the merits of claims, assess and price risks associated with the litigation, evaluate litigation budgets, and negotiate financing deals from start to finish. Ideally this person will have worked with litigation funding, on a contingency/AFA basis, and/or on patent monetization, so as to have a strong grounding in the economics of patent matters.

This position will involve close liaison with law firms, in-house counsel, and corporate representatives, as well as Burford’s global team, which spans offices in New York and Chicago in addition to London. There are also frequent opportunities to write and speak on IP matters on behalf of Burford.

The role will report to the Managing Director of Burford’s Intellectual Property business and may be based in our Chicago or New York office.
