Quantitative Investment Analyst

Burford is hiring a Quantitative Investment Analyst to join our existing quantitative analytics team, which applies analytical principles to evaluate potential and existing investment opportunities whose primary driver is a legal outcome. Burford invests across different industry sectors and geographies and through a variety of structures.

The Quantitative Investment Analyst will be an essential contributor to the firm’s investment process. A successful candidate will possess intellectual curiosity, a certain comfort level with uncertainty and an aptitude for developing analytical frameworks. Manager of Talent & DEI

The Manager of Talent & DEI is a complex role covering a broad spectrum of challenging HR responsibilities including recruitment and performance management in a unique industry as well as leadership of an ambitious DEI program that will be built from the ground up. The Manager of Talent & DEI will be a key member of Burford’s human capital team and will be accountable for advancing Burford’s talent and DEI goals via designing and executing a broad array of programs. Research Associate

Marketing Technology Intern

Burford is looking for a Marketing Technology Intern with a desire to acquire skills in the key programs that drive digital marketing as well as experience in executing digital marketing programs. This is a unique opportunity for a technical-minded person to gain exposure to two of the biggest players in marketing technology (Pardot & SFDC) along with an understanding how a marketing technology ecosystem works together and passes data that facilitates both measuring and meeting the goals of a marketing team.

This role will provide opportunities to develop and use a variety of skills, including technical and creative problem solving skills that are essential in business to business marketing. On a day-to-day basis, this person will use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create and optimize business to business marketing assets, and they will leverage a basic understanding of SQL to build lists and workflows from simple and complex criteria.

Although we seek a full-time summer intern in the New York metropolitan area to work for 10-12 weeks, we welcome candidates that are willing to transition into a part-time intern when the school year starts again in the fall.

Commercial Litigation Underwriter

Burford has created a position in our Commercial Underwriting group.  The position responsibilities include analyzing the risk profile of cases Burford considers for financing and providing oversight to cases in which Burford has invested. Underwriters must have the ability to quickly evaluate the merits of claims, assess and price risks associated with the litigation, evaluate litigation budgets, and negotiate financing deals from start to finish. This position will involve close liaison with law firms, in-house counsel, and corporate representatives, as well as Burford’s global underwriting team.

Senior PR Manager

Burford Capital seeks to hire a Senior PR Manager to contribute to the growth of its businesses by maximizing its visibility in business and legal press on a global basis. A key member of Burford’s growing global marketing team, the Senior PR Manager will work to ensure that Burford secures consistent, high-quality coverage by cultivating and maintaining relationships with key journalists and editors and by targeting them with relevant and timely story ideas. Vice President – Patent Litigation Case Management

The Firm has created a Vice President (or above, commensurate with experience) position on the case management team, which is responsible for monitoring and maximizing the value of our multi-billion dollar portfolio of existing litigation investments.  The case manager will manage the substantial portfolio of patent cases in which Burford has invested, including staying informed of and reporting on material developments in our investments; monitoring spend vs. commitment and the life cycle of the case; advising senior management on developments and strategic issues; and working with our counterparties to enhance our chances of a successful investment and case resolution. The case manager will work side-by-side with underwriter case owners who originally underwrote the patent investments in the portfolio, and with case managers for commercial litigation and arbitration investments. This case manager also will work closely with law firms, in-house counsel, and corporate representatives, as well as Burford’s global underwriting team. 

The case manager will report to a Managing Director of Burford responsible for managing the firm’s investments and be based in Burford’s Chicago offices.

Executive Compensation Manager

Burford has created its inaugural Executive Compensation Manager position to assist in managing the increasing complexity of our growing global workforce and the related complexity of our compensation and benefits offerings, including with respect to executive compensation.  The Manager will assist in the design of recruiting, compensation and retention programs and will administer and communicate with employees about Burford’s compensation and benefits plans, including equity, carried interest, deferred compensation and other plans across multiple jurisdictions.  The Manager should have good knowledge of human resource strategies, relevant tax and labor laws and regulations, and compensation and benefits programs and vendors.  This is a broad role ranging from having substantive input into program design to the management and hands-on administration of all compensation and benefit programs; there is no administrative support in the HR function.

Financial Accountant

Burford Capital has a vacancy for a Financial Accountant in its New York, who will play an integral role in the financial reporting process. This includes, among other things, the monthly, interim and year-end close and consolidation process, overseeing the payment function in the U.S. and budget to actual reporting.  The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years experience; at least 2 of which are in public accounting and another 1+ years experience in the financial services industry and will have specific experience with the monthly financial statement close process and consolidation in a multiple-entity corporate environment.  Experience with Sage Intacct would be a plus.

Vice President - Business Development (US)

Burford Capital is adding a Vice President – Business Development who will be responsible for interacting with CFOs, finance professionals, lawyers and other influencers in our target markets to build relationships and identify cases, portfolios of cases and other opportunities in which Burford may be willing to provide financing solutions.  We are seeking a creative business development professional or former finance professional with an agile mind and previous experience and demonstrated success in developing business within the CFO and executive suite community.  We expect candidates to have deep networks within the CFO community of private and public companies.   

The role will report to the Managing Director of the domestic business development team (NY-based manager) and may be based in one of multiple locations across the US.
