Anthony Sebok

Professor Sebok is the co-director of Cardozo’s Jacob Burns Center for Ethics in the Practice of Law and a nationally recognized legal scholar and expert on legal ethics, legal finance, comparative tort law, mass torts and insurance law.  In 2021, he was appointed as the Joseph and Sadie Danciger Chair in Law at Cardozo School of Law. He was previously the Centennial Professor of Law and the Associate Dean for Research at Brooklyn Law School, a fellow in the Program in Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University and a fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.

AS the author of numerous articles about legal finance and mass restitution litigation, Professor Sebok is frequently quoted in the national media on timely legal issues. His casebook, Tort Law: Responsibilities and Redress, coauthored with John Goldberg and Benjamin Zipursky, is used at several leading law schools. His new book on comparative tort law, co-authored by Mauro Bussani and Marta Infantino, will be published by Oxford University Press in early 2022.

Professor Sebok clerked for Chief Judge Edward N. Cahn of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Law Institute and is a subject expert for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination for the National Conference of Bar Examiners and serves on the New York City Bar Association’s Professional Ethics Committee. He previously served as academic co-reporter for the ABA Commission on Ethics 20/20 Informational Report on Alternative Litigation Finance.

He earned a JD from Yale Law School, a PhD in politics from Princeton University and holds an M.Phil in politics from the University of Oxford.
